Womb-wellness, Menstrual health, Uterus Support, Womb-healing - what are we REALLY talking about??
We are talking about the holistic approach to healing and supporting our wombs - the uterus & the Yoni (Vagina), that will then aid in healing our bodies physically, spiritually, and emotionally. There are MANY practices to assist this however, I’m diving into the ancient practice of Yoni Steaming!
Well….why has this ancient practice and wisdom never been taught to us? Why are we not learning and being told about ALL of our options in caring for this unique portion of our bodies? I believe it to the same reason that women all over the world are just beginning to learn and embrace ideas like the menstrual cup or yoni eggs. We have been so far removed from connecting to our womb space due to patriarchal society, taboo, shame, among a slew of personal reasons and even trauma. But the conversation is starting among American women…I see it in my circles. I see it between mothers and daughters as mothers inherently want a different experience for their children. I see it emerging with the return of home births, doulas, and midwives as they become more mainstream and optioned. A generation now has the opportunity to heal, treat, engage, and connect with their wombs and yonis in a way women have not been allowed or encouraged to do in the west for far too long.
My journey started with looking to herbs for every day cures for acute and minor illnesses and injuries within my own family. I was never taught herbal medicine nor was I aligned with holistic approach to wellness…until I had my first daughter and of course that changed everything. Motherhood has a way of doing that to us :)
Before I knew it, I was looking for ways to lay foundation for her in every area that I was never given. First being the creation of Moon Journey Menstrual Workshop. I wanted her to have a BEAUTIFUL, shameless, celebratory experience when she began her menses. From there I began diving deeper into my connection with my body as a woman through facilitating sister circles and sharing in wisdom, ancient herbal knowledge, and my reconnection to Mother Earth. Then came Yoni Eggs & Yoni Steaming…
~ THE PRACTICE OF YONI STEAMING ~
The yoni steam is a blend of herbs prepared specifically to aid in the health of the womb and vagina. The herbs carried by the steam treat, heal and balance your vaginal/womb physical and spiritual health. The blend is created to get you in touch with your divine feminine energy and aid in a the following ways:
Calendula (AKA Marigold): Aids in healing of vaginal tears, or hemorrhoids. Calendula officinalis aids in the healing of tight scarred tissues of the labia and perineum due to episiotomy, or vaginal tear. (Do not steam over open wound)
Mugwort: In addition to fighting infection through its antibiotic and anti-fungal properties, mugwort balances female hormones and stimulates the production of hormones that help to maintain uterine health as well as protect the uterus from things such as ulcers and tumors. Mugwort steam opens the pores, allowing the beneficial herbs to penetrate into the blood stream. In addition, mugwort helps to stimulate menstrual discharge and ease cramping.
Red Raspberry Leaf: Can help to bring toning to the uterine muscles. Also helps with: heavy menses, painful menses, soothes cramps, endometriosis, blood purificator, skin purificator.
Yarrow: Astringent, tonifying and cleansing, yarrow is great for regulating menstrual flow, treating ovarian cysts and supporting overall uterine health.
Red Rose Buds: A relaxing, uplifting and astringent herb that smells delightful, and softens the skin. It is known as the “vaginal facial”.

Directions: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add 1 ounce (heaping 1/4 cup) of herbal mix for 1 steam - let herbs steep for 15-20 minutes with lid over the pot. Pour mixture into large bowl and slide under open/slatted chair, bench, or stool. Also can place bowl in toilet. Disrobe from the waist down and drape towel or blanket over your lap creating a tent-like effect. Check heat for comfortability as to not burn your skin. Add more hot water to bowl if water is not steaming to your liking. Sit over steam 25-30 minutes.
